$25 For 2 Years Worth of Laundry Soap!!

Yes you read the title right $25 for 2 years of Laundry Detergent. I have been making my own detergent for about 5 years now and I LOVE IT. Many people would be scared the soap doesn't work or its to much work to do it. To me its well worth the 30 mins it may take me to save HUNDREDS of dollars over the years. I have been asked many times for the recipe for my soap so what better time then now? I have tried many different soap recipes over the years, all a little different but all in all they all work outstanding. In the beginning I made liquid which is more work then the powder I currently use, about 3 years ago I lost the recipe for it and have never been able to make it the same again. I found that the liquid does take longer to make. You have to cook the bar soap after its grated in water till dissolved PLUS every time before you use the soap you must shake the jug very very well to break up any clumps or to stir anything that may have fallen to the bottom of the liquid. BLAH just a pain in the butt, but still worth it for the money savings.
I have been using the powder soap for about 6 months now and no complaints. With my husband being a mechanic a good laundry soap is a MUST!! Not only does this remove stains but it smells amazing!
Here is the breakdown to my soap:
$4.47 --4 lbs box Borax
$3.97 --3 lbs box WASHING SODA
$4.96 --28 oz Oxyclean
$1.94  -- Fals Naptha Bars (need 2 at .97ea)
$6.97 -- 13oz Gain Fireworks scent booster (or your favorite scent)
$2.48 --3.5 lbs Baking Soda ( optional I do not use this currently)
___________
Just under $25 without tax!!

Crazy right? Now on to how I make it.
Additional items you may have around the house or will need to purchase; 5 gallon bucket, large stirring spoon or lid for your bucket, cheese grater with a fine grate, and a sealed container to hold your detergent.
Take your 2 bars of Fals Naptha and grater on the fine side shave both bars. This is the step that will test your patience and make your hands cramp!! Should resemble pic below.

Next take all ingredients pour gently into bucket. I say gently as it will create a fine dust that Im sure your respiratory system shouldn't be inhaling. If you don't have a lid for your bucket you will want to add 1/4 of each item at a time so its well mixed. If you have a lid once you have poured all ingredients place lid on and roll across the floor until well mixed.
Your detergent needs to be in a sealed container to keep out moisture to avoid clumping. This is mine I bought a Gallon container at Walmart for I believe $1 the rest I store in ice cream buckets and refill this container as needed.

I also use the scooper from the Oxyclean as my measure and only fill to line A which is about 2 TABLESPOONS. Thats all you need! Now me being the clean freak I am, I will admit I always seem to use more. Its just my brain telling me it will be extra clean if I do.

Thats all folks! No need to do it again for 2 years. Of course this depends on how often you do Laundry.
YES THIS SOAP IS HE SAFE!

Ditch your vacuum and GO SHARK!

Lets talk vacuum. Being I have worked over 5 years in home improvement stores being an appliance specialist, kitchen designer, part of my job was getting training on vacuums. I started working at home depot when I was 18 (2008) in 2009 I purchased my own home. I needed a vacuum so made a huge leap to buying a Dyson at the retail price of $399. no Home Depot does not give employee discounts FYI. Anyway I thought I hit the jackpot of Cleaning appliances. Fast forward to now 2018. The Dyson has seen better days and is in very rough shape with me beating the crap out of it even with my Rosey (Roomba vacuum) working at least every other day. With our tax money I decided to start looking into the possibility of purchasing a new vacuum. Of course I start looking at Dyson. Being the cheapskate I am the price tag of the Dyson is not appealing to me. My mom in the past has had Shark brand items that worked pretty good ( these items were just the cheap old stick vacs of the past) and I have been seeing more and more on Shark. I added Shark brand into my search criteria. Reviews are for the most part very positive and  above 4.5 stars. Now I have NEVER been the person to base a purchase on reviews. Ive learned in the appliance retail industry to take all reviews with a grain of salt because everyone loves to give the negative review. Searching through the millions ( ok not millions) of Shark vaccum models I'm really overwhelmed and some of the price tags are up in the Dyson range. I'm at a loss. After 3 months of looking online, going to stores and touching the products, asking facebook friends I FINALLY took the plunge. Hallelujah!! Just GO SHARK! I also took an even bigger leap into buying refurbished. Buying 2 vacuums for the price of 1 now that's a deal to shout bout! I bought the Shark Rotator Lift Away speed NV680 and Shark Rocket HV300 Certified Refurbished. reading other blogs and reviews reassured me they go through extensive testing individually and still have manufactured warranty. Retail if I were to purchase separate they would have been $495.99. Get ready for this... I paid drum roll....... $182.99!!! If that's not a deal I don't know what is. I received them in a timely manner packaging was great all parts clean and new looking, smell clean, look clean. That was a real worry that they would smell or have dirt in them and who knows what else, this was not the case. I could not wait to vacuum. I had just vacuumed the whole house the day before with my Dyson D40 I believe was the model. I assemble my new vacuums and hit the pavement so to speak. I don't get but 5 feet into my room and I'm completely disgusted to how much dirt is already in the canister. I cant forget to mention I just shampooed our carpet the week prior. Once I'm done with my room using the upright vac and the canister is completely full, I wanted to go over it with my stick vac just to see what happened. Again so much nasty in the canister. Don't take that the wrong way either thinking well then the vacuum cant be that great if your canister is filling not 5 mins after you vacuum.Just this past weekend we replaced our carpet with laminate wood floor and the sandy, dirt substance that was found under our carpet was what the shark was pulling up. BARF! We have been here for 7 months in this house, I vacuum at least every other day and shampoo carpets once a month. JUST GROSS! The dyson did pull a little bit of this substance up but I just assumed this was just dead skin in our carpets. So to say that Shark can do this is amazing!!! I'm also very happy that the brush head of the vacuums can fit under my cabinets where my dyson did not. I was scared of not liking the wand on the Shark but that is far from the case I love it! I was worried about the width of the brush head was smaller and wouldn't like it but again not the case I can fit into more spaces YAY!! My best friend also just recently bought a Shark and she has 3 children and LOVES it! If I were to say any cons of the Shark would be that when using the wand the vacuum does tip over easy and the LED lights on the front really show all the dirt I have been missing if you take that as a con lol. All in all GO SHARK VACUUM!!! If you are in the market for a new vacuum I hope this post will help you or if you have a friend in the market feel free to share this post! I would love to hear all your feed back on the blog or on your vacuum! Thanks for reading and enjoy the dirt bunny pictures below! :)

Give it a try! 😛

Lets give this blogging thing a try. Im Ashley a 28 yr old Mom from Minnesota. The topic of this blog will be how much of a clean freak I am testing products, DIY homemade cleaners, and hoping to receive feedback on readers experiences with their own concoctions. Along with all things cleaning of course ill add in my two cents on my own life and most likely DIY projects. Being a stay at home mom gives me lots od time on my hands. 1 crazy toddler girl, 1 large man child or some call them husbands, and 3 fur children. That combination has me constantly cleaning, cleaning plus a little cleaning. I have no idea what I am doing but hey why not. I have to say if you are a grammar Nazi pr hate when people dont use proper punctuation, spelling errors, typos this blog will definitely drive you insane. 🤣🤣 I also want to have fun and just interact with whoever may stumble on my blog. So as I compile my days ahead with recipes for cleaners, what i love to use etc. Drop a comment let me know your here and what you would like to see or try. Lets do this!
